Abstract

Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) is a highly transmissible and pathogenic coronavirus thatemerged in late 2019 and has caused a pandemic of acute respiratory disease, 'coronavirus disease 2019' (COVID-19), whichthreatens human health and public safety. Populations with comorbidities, such as cerebrovascular and cardiovasculardiseases, hypertension, COPD, and renal disease are most at risk of dying from COVID-19. It is also evident that comorbiditieshave definite impact on the severity of COVID-19. The varied clinical manifestations of COVID-19 with its rapid human-to-human transmission throughout the world resulted in high rates of mortality rate in a short time. The epidemiology and thecharacteristics of COVID-19 patients in Bangladesh need to have a proper insight into the natural history, patho-physiologyand patterns in progression of the disease.
